Things to See and Do in Florence

None can deny that the Italian region of Tuscany has some truly breathtaking locations, all of which have something special to offer visitors. For most vacations in Tuscany though, a trip to the city of Florence is essential.

You’re likely to find that there’s something that interests you in this area, and with all its beauty it deserves at least a few hours of your time. No Tuscan adventure is complete without a trip to Florence, so be sure to take a look at some of the many stunning places here during your stay.

The Galleria degli Uffizi

More commonly known in English as the Uffizi Gallery, the Galleria deglia Uffizi has a wide range of beautiful paintings, along with many masterpieces from brilliant minds like Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.

You’re sure to see plenty of iconic pieces from the Renaissance era here too – after all, this is one of the things that makes this art museum so popular. Another factor that draws the attention of tourists across the globe is the fact that this gallery is one of the oldest in the western world. With all this and more, the Uffizi Gallery is considered well worth a visit.

Ponte Vecchio

Almost anyone visiting Florence will want to make sure that they check out Ponte Vecchio – one of the oldest and most iconic bridges in the world. There aren’t many bridges here with houses or shops, but the buildings on Ponte Vecchio are still in use today (this is mostly because of the Vasari Corridor).

The Vasari Corridor is a “secret” passageway, built to connect Pitti Palace and Palazzo Vecchio. It was constructed by Vasari in 1565 for Duke Cosimo I de’ Medici. Be sure to walk along this ancient bridge and don’t forget to buy yourself a souvenir from one of the shops!

Piazzale Michelangelo

Another excellent part of Florence is Piazzale Michelangelo. One of the most common reasons why this location should be on your list of places to visit is because of the stunning panoramic views that can be seen from the observation point – although you’re likely find that traversing the streets is just as interesting. For example, you’re sure to enjoy yourself while exploring the small streets of the San Niccolò neighbourhood.
