While short vacations may be ideal for some, you may want a longer stay in Tuscany for your holiday. If so, our Soggiorno tour may be perfect for you if you hope to experience this part of Italy and all it has to offer at your leisure.

With an extended stay of 14 days to enjoy all that the Italian countryside has to offer, there’s a good chance that you’ll be able to take in the breathtaking scenery, visit some of the popular hot spots and landmarks, and enjoy a range of fantastic excursions with our tour. Generally, this trip can be tailored for everyone to enjoy – from families looking to spend quality time together, to couples who want a romantic getaway.

You could even visit with a group of friends to learn more about this amazing part of Italy; with a tour as diverse as ours, you’re likely to have an amazing experience no matter what you come for.

There’s so much to see and do – from visiting vineyards and wine tasting, to engaging with the local artisans and residents, you’ll be likely to have an unforgettable experience in the heart of Tuscany.

You could even learn to cook an authentic, 4 course Italian meal, or explore one of the many nearby historic towns (such as Montepulciano). Perhaps you may want to take the time to experience the Tuscan lifestyle instead,by sampling some fine wines or listening to traditional songs played by local musicians. It’s up to you how you choose to spend your trip here.

Tour Itinerary

  • SATURDAY – Arrival
    • “When you arrive at the station, whether it’s 3:30pm or 5:30pm, we’ll come to take you to your apartment for the trip.
  • SUNDAY – Cortona
    • “For the first day of your time in Tuscany, we’ll head back to Cortona to give you a better chance to see this stunning historic town by exploring the area. Take it all in while going on a relaxed tour of the region, with a guide to teach you more about the location and a cup of coffee to drink as you go. You’ll probably be famished after all this, so you’ll be glad to hear that you’ll get to enjoy a tasty meal for lunch at a local eatery. When you’re ready, you’ll have some free time to spend however you please; whether you want to shop, do some more sightseeing, or just relax in the beautiful town
    • At 4pm, if you want to head back to your apartment, we’ll take you there – but you can stay in Cortona some more if you wish
    • Whether you stay or go back, we’ll meet up with you a little later on to revisit the town for a tantalizing dinner
    • At 6:30pm, you’ll get to immerse yourself in the Tuscan lifestyle as you enjoy a traditional Aperitivo in the Piazza before having your evening meal.”
  • MONDAY – Siena & San Gimignano
    • “At 9am on your second day here in Tuscany, we’ll head out to one of the region’s most iconic locations; San Gimignano.
    • Along with plenty of interesting information on this historical and cultural town, we’ll also provide you with a coffee.
    • Afterwards, you’ll get the chance to explore the area at your leisure; whether you want to do some sightseeing, shopping, or anything else that interests you. But that’s not all we’ll do today, as at 2pm, we’ll take you to Siena where you’ll get the chance to learn more about the town from your tour guide. We’ll then give you some time to immerse yourself in the Tuscan lifestyle during your free time before an evening meal.
    • At 6pm, you’ll be having dinner in one of Siena’s local restaurants, so you can truly get a feel for the great tastes of the region”
  • TUESDAY – Tour Free Day
    • After all the excitement of the past few days, we’ll give you a chance to relax on a tour-free day, which you can spend in any way you please. For today’s evening meal, you’ll be able to enjoy some traditional Tuscan wine with your tantalizing dinner.
  • WEDNESDAY – Florence
    • “The next part of your stay involves a trip to Florence – and don’t worry, we’ll take care of the train fares!
    • When you arrive, you’ll get the chance to spend your time in the region in any way you like for several hours; allowing you to explore, do some sightseeing, or just relax. Later in the afternoon you can make your way back to Cortona by train and we’ll take you back to your apartment where you can unwind after such an exciting day out.”
  • THURSDAY – Chianti
    • To start today off, we’ll be visiting the ancient town of Chianti, where you’ll be able to explore a location full of interesting history. You’ll get to enjoy a coffee as we take a trip to Castellina, where you’ll be able to learn more about this stunning region. After, you’ll get to experience a long lunch that’s both traditional and tasty, as well as wine tasting, at the Queceto di Castellina.
  • FRIDAY – Activity
    • Cheese Making or Wellness Day For today, you’ll be given a choice on what to do. You can either relax and take part in a number of holistic activities, or you could learn how cheese is made and even attempt to make some of your own. After a day of activities, you’ll probably be ready for a meal, so we’ll take you into Cortona to enjoy a tasty and traditional dinner.
  • SATURDAY – Arezzo
    • At 9am, we’ll be taking you to the local station to travel to our first destination of the day. We plan on visiting Arezzo – and we’ll give you plenty of information on the town and some ideas of how you could spend your time here. After, we’ll give you some time to explore, do some sightseeing, or whatever else you choose to do. We’ll take you back to your villa later on, where you can have some leisure time to relax after your exciting trip to Arezzo. We have one more treat in store for you today; a trip into Cortona for a tasty, traditional Italian dinner!
  • SUNDAY – Pienza & Montepulciano
    • With a full day ahead, we’ll depart to the town of Pienza, the birth place of Pope Pius II; a small township famous for Pecorino cheese and beautiful boutiques, first, allowing you to savour the stunning sights on the journey. In between Pienza and Montepulciano, we’ll make a stop for lunch at an organic farm and to allow you time to really get to grips with the iconic architecture and sights in this captivating area. After lunch we visit Montepulciano, also located in the Val d’Orcia. This township is a true gem, great shopping, wonderful trattorias, cantinas and sulumerie for wine and cheese tastings. We’ll then transport you comfortably back to your accommodation in the late afternoon, where the rest of your evening will be yours to enjoy as you wish.
  • MONDAY – Tour Free Day
    • For the start of your next week here, you can choose to do a little exploring in the local areas, or instead participate in an additional activity. After a full day of doing what you please, we’ll take you to dinner at a local trattoria for a delicious meal and local wines.
  • TUESDAY – Cooking Class
    • We have something quite different on the agenda today; we’ll give you the chance to prepare your very own 4 course Tuscan meal. Not only will you be under the guidance of an experienced Italian chef as you cook, but you’ll also be able to learn new skills as you go and enjoy the food you prepare, too.
  • WEDNESDAY – Orvieto & Bagno Regio
    • For today, you’ll get to experience one of our most popular tours – the trip into Orvieto. We’ll have lunch at one of the local restaurants, and from here you’ll get the chance to check out this area on your own; whether that involves sightseeing or shopping. Finally, to end the tour of the day, you’ll get to enjoy fine dining in this stunning location before heading back to your accommodation.
  • THURSDAY – Lucignano
    • The next town you’ll be visiting during your stay here is Lucigano – and from the MuseoComune to the Castle of Calcione, there are plenty of historic sites. Not only will you have a few hours to explore this ancient and stunning town on your own, but you’ll also get to enjoy a traditional lunch here, too. When it comes to 6:30pm , we’ll head over to Cortona for your evening meal; delicious, traditional Italian pizza.
  • FRIDAY – Tour Free Day
    • “Since this is a tour-free day, you’ll get the chance to spend your time however you like; whether that’s relaxing or exploring
    • At 6pm, we’ll visit a local eatery for dinner and complementary wine to give you the chance to experience one last authentic Tuscan dining session before you leave for home tomorrow. “
  • SATURDAY – Departure
    • We hope your time in Tuscany was both enjoyable and memorable – but now, it’s time to take you back to the station, so you can say goodbye and make your way back home.

  • Your airfares will be your responsibility to manage and you may want to get in touch with your local carrier to assist with bookings
  • We recommend taking out travel insurance, as it’s better to be safe than sorry
  • If you wish to visit any public galleries, landmarks, or museums; you may need to book or pay for tickets on the day
  • We cover all costs of meals that are included in your itinerary – anything outside of this will be your obligation to pay for
  • You’ll have plenty of opportunities to buy from local stores or enjoy leisure activities and you’ll need to cover your personal expenditures in these instances

Accommodation

Il Mandorlo, Fratticciola

Il Mandorlo is a rural house dating back to the 17th Century which has been restored in keeping with its original shape and materials. It is located in the valley ‘Val di Chiana’ nearby the historical centre of Cortona.

The house is divided into five apartments with all modern facilities including air conditioning and WI-FI. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the infinity swimming pool provides a panoramic view of the historical centre of Cortona and surrounding valley.

Set in a quiet location but close enough to the main roads which connect to all the well-known historical cities and villages.

It is an image of rolling hills, vineyards, age-old trees, golden wheat in Spring, Sunflowers in Summer and the constantly changing shades of the earth.

Rosa Dei Venti, Creti

Rosa dei Venti dates back to the 18th Century and is located in the hamlet of Creti in the valley ‘Val di Chiana’ nearby the historical centre of Cortona.

The 25 hectare estate comprises a vineyard, olive groves and two farm houses which are beautifully maintained and include a swimming pool offering spectacular views of the valley.

The various buildings on these grounds have been restored in keeping with old traditions and the six apartments comprise all modern facilities including air conditioning and WI-FI.

Set in a quiet location but close enough to the main roads which connect to all the well-known historical cities and villages this property is a gem of the Tuscan landscape.

Fattoria Giare, Fratticciola

Set in the Tuscan hills Fattoria Le Giare is located in the hamlet of Fratticciola in the valley ‘Val di Chiana’ nearby the historical centre of Cortona and offers eight beautifully restored apartments all with modern facilities including air conditioning and WI-FI.

The grounds are beautifully maintained with a swimming pool offering panoramic views of the valley and Cortona. A peaceful and enchanting oasis to retreat to after a touring day.

Set in a quiet location but close enough to the main roads which connect to all the well-known historical cities and villages this property is a perfect ‘home away from home’ in the Tuscan countryside.

Getting there

The tour begins near the historical centre of Cortona. Upon arrival we will meet you at our local train station Camucia-Cortona and will transfer you, via vehicle to the villa, which is a short drive into the countryside.

Cortona is located 2.5 hours by regional train from the main train station in Rome (Roma Termini) and 1.5 hours by regional train from the main train station in Florence (Santa Maria Novella).

Train Travel to the Villa

If you are already in Italy connection to either Roma Termini or Firenze Santa Maria Novella train stations is easily accessible via other train stations.

Either of these two major cities are a good option for your arrival into Italy and then travel to our location. We will meet you at our local train station Camucia-Cortona and will transfer you, via vehicle to the villa, which is a short drive into the countryside.

Arrival from Rome Airport:

  1. Take the Leonardo Express Train from Rome Airport to Roma Termini Train Station (This is a 30min journey and will cost approximately 15 Euro)
  2. From there take a regional train to Camucia-Cortona (This is a 2.5hr journey and will cost approximately 15 Euro)

Arrival from Florence Airport:

  1. Take the bus that goes to Firenze Santa Maria Novella Train Station (This takes approximately 30mins and will cost approximately 15 Euro)
  2. From there take a regional train to Camucia-Cortona (This is a 1.5hr journey and will cost approximately 13 Euro)
